By the Light of
the Silvery Moon
The day couldn’t
have been more
perfect for the
Management Council
Progressive Dinner
Cruise, at the
Channel Islands
Harbor, on October
2, 2004, for it
was a warm and
balmy afternoon
charged with the
excitement of an
adventure.
Captain Bob met
us in front of
the Port Royal
restaurant and
escorted us down
a ramp to a quaint
little water taxi---so
cute, it has a
painted on smile
and eyes! This
smile wasn’t the
first one I saw
that day and DEFINITELY
wasn’t the last.
As we cruised
to our first destination,
the Lobster Trap,
for appetizers,
Captain Bob proudly
showed off the
Harbor and its
many attributes.
His banter was
entertaining, educational
and down right
fun. We were also
accompanied by
cheerful music
that was piped
throughout the
taxi.
Oh my, the appetizers
were the BEST!
I had crab cakes
and my fellow cruisers
ate nicoise salad
or roasted scallops.
The portions were
generous and very
tasty. Everybody
seemed so relaxed
and happy, and
the air was filled
with constant chatter
between friends
and new friends.
After a while
the Captain appeared
and again guided
us back to the
little ship with
a smile.
On this leg of
the trip we sailed
past large lovely
homes…some with
yachts, as big
as a house, docked
alongside. At the
same time the sun
was setting and
we were able to
see it fall into
the ocean. Now
that was very romantic.
Dinner was served
at the Whale’s
Tail. We had a
choice of salmon,
lobster, chicken,
steak or vegetarian.
Again, the food
was the best as
was the service.
On our last little
cruise between
restaurants, Captain
Bob took us almost
out to the breakwater…for
a minute I actually
thought he was
going into the
ocean! We saw a
large barge that
had equipment to
dredge the ocean
bottom. It was
lit up and folks
were on it working
away. It was very
dark outside, except
for the silvery
moon, and the temperature
had dropped considerably,
but because our
taxi was enclosed
we remained comfortable.
By the time we
reached our dessert
restaurant, the
Port Royal, most
of us were pretty
stuffed and didn’t
know if we would
have room for that
one last course.
I am not a big
one for desserts,
but I have to admit
the Flambe Banana
Royal was pretty
spectacular and
delicious…a little
decadent, yes,
but tasty.
My original goal
was to try to meet
everyone there
and make new friends.
As it turned out
I attained my goal…and
it was without
any effort. I sat
with different
folks all evening
long and that made
it an extremely
special day. I
was able to share
with new friends,
old friends and
actually ran into
a friend I hadn’t
seen in about 9
years.
I felt a little
sad saying “goodbye”,
but know in my
heart there will
be other opportunities
to share with my
good friends in
the Management
Council as we plan
to have more fun
outings in the
near future. I’ll
be there…WILL YOU?
